The Eighth Commandment
March 1, 2026 Speaker: Brian Dobak Series: Ten
Topic: The 10 Commandments, Stealing, God's Aseity, Generosity, Reliance on God Passage: Exodus 20:16–15
In the eighth command, learn the deeper meaning behind God's commandment not to steal. God is not dependent on anything or anyone else for His existence, purpose, or sustenance (Aseity). When God commands his people not to steal, He also commands them to be generous with what they have. By stealing and rejecting generosity, we reject God as our provider and declare him not sufficient for our needs. Though, through Christ, we can live in God's sufficiency, relying on Him and being generous with what God gives us.
